Hoshinoya Taketomi Island: A Timeless Subtropical Escape

In the heart of Japan’s subtropical archipelago known as the Yaeyama Islands, Taketomi Island is a stark contrast to the urban sprawls of Japan's major cities. While tourism hubs like Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka draw their fair share of visitors, the Yaeyama Islands offer a refreshing departure from the urban sprawl with a combination of turquoise waters, pristine white sand beaches, and a unique insight into Japan’s Ryukyu Culture.

Taketomi Island, the jewel of the Yaeyama archipelago, is home to just 400 people. Single-story houses, built with distinctive red tile roofs in the traditional Ryukyu style, dot the landscape. In between, you'll discover a handful of lowkey restaurants, cafes, artisan studios, and Hoshinoya Taketomi Island.

The Offer

Nowhere is the timelessness of Ryukyu culture more beautifully preserved than the hidden village of Hoshinoya Taketomi Island. The resort features 48 Ryukyu-style villas intertwined through stone pathways and gukku coral walls and designed meticulously to reflect the lifestyles and rituals of the islanders themselves. As well as a 24-hour heated pool, signature ‘Island Time’ spa, Yuntaku lounge, and in-house dining celebrating local Okinawan cuisine, Hoshinoya Taketomi Island offers unrivalled personal service and relaxation from busy modern lifestyles.

The Location

Tucked away quietly in the Yaeyama archipelago, Taketomi Island offers a pristine and authentic escape. The island's mandate for traditional architecture, including red-tiled roofs and gukku stone walls, has allowed the island to resist any modern developments. As you explore the island, you'll encounter sandy lanes, idyllic beaches, and single-story houses with a Ryukyu touch. Traffic is at a minimum on the island, and the relaxed atmosphere and quiet roads are ideal for exploring by bike or on foot.

Who is it For?

Hoshinoya Taketomi Island welcomes travellers in pursuit of escapism and cultural immersion. It's an oasis of tranquility catering to those seeking a genuine connection with the local way of life. Whether couples seeking romance, luxury travellers in search of authenticity, or solo travellers looking for a break from the ordinary, the rare location promises an unforgettable trip.
